Is Windows 8 the next Vista? Take a look at our initial review and tips

A couple of days ago I started testing Windows 8 . The new Microsoft operating system has been promoted on every single ad around the world. The launch was some days ago and since some months we knew all new laptops and desktops were going to be shipped with Windows 8.

Before I start I need to comment you my installation experience: Although the installation process was really fast (I always do full installations and not upgrades), consider saving the ISO file into a USB device making it bootable (you can use Yumi Multiboot for this) or you can burn the ISO into a DVD disc in case something goes wrong and you need to reinstall…

If you invested USD 50.000 on 2005, are you happy or sad?

If you invested USD 50.000 on 2005, are you happy or sad?

Tech companies have been going up and down during the last years and its been a while since I last checked a comparison chart about the ones that are doing well vs the ones that are “not so lucky”.

It is curious to see how the fastest growing company of the last years (Apple), was once saved by Microsoft 15 years ago back in 1997. At that time around June 1997 Apple shares where worth USD 3.5 now in 2012 they are worth around USD 700, doubling its overall market value in comparison to Microsoft and becoming the most valuable company in the world.

If you are interested to hear Steve Jobs talking nice about the “collaboration deal” with Microsoft that saved Apple at that time here is the video.

As you can see companies that in 2005 were “quiet”, now are screaming of success and others that where successful at that time now are having a lot of problems…

Life without a smartphone, does it make sense?

Life without a smartphone, does it make sense?

What I am about to write not everybody will understand. I am geek, a person who really love all kind of technology software, hardware, gadgets and so. I really miss my smartphone, and I will tell you why:

My girlfriend and I moved to Switzerland a little more than 6 months ago, the contrast with Argentina (where we used to live) is really enormous, and we really love being here. When we decided to leave our country, we sold everything, including our smartphones. I used to have an old Samsung Galaxy S (yes, the first one) which already feels like a dinosaur old. When we arrived to Switzerland I was given an iPhone 4S at the company where I temporary worked for three months, and I loved it. It was my first experience with an iPhone, the whole experience was “it just works” although I understand that the contrast between this mobile and the one I used to have is also very big in terms of technology…

Google prefers direct relationship with customers rather than Resellers

Google prefers direct relationship with customers rather than Resellers

Google has a reseller agreement where they allow you to sell their Google Apps Business product. The main product of this package is that you can have your own email account with 25 GB of online space, own domain, online sync with all your devices and constant backup so you don´t loose anything. Together with it a huge amount of tools and parameters to personalize your mail experience for each user at your company no matter what size they are. Other services come with each account too, you can check the overall product on this link. I use this service for myself and has been improving a lot from month to month, and clearly is a great alternative to having your own mail servers at your office…

5 Reasons on why the iPad Mini could shake the market

5 Reasons on why the iPad Mini could shake the market

As usual Apple rumours are all along; this time making references to the iPad Mini a 7.85” tablet to be announced soon. The spread word indicates that the new device will be announced around the 17th of October 20012 but no invitations have been received by anybody yet.

Considering all this as true, an iPad Mini could really hit the market and shake things up for everybody, some speculations state that 10 million devices has been ordered to manufacture. (UPDATE: New Image added with a filtered price list in Euros)

Google: please integrate Google Drive and Picasa

Google: please integrate Google Drive and Picasa

I am starting to use Google Drive and I´ve been using Picasa for a while now. Some days ago Google announced that they were going to start considering Google Drive and Picasa space as one storage unit. I believe this will make things easier for the end user, but something crucial is missing.

I needed to back up my pictures and videos, they are around 80GB of more than 10 years of scanned, and digital pictures I´ve been taking since I had my first digital Epson PhotoPC 650 camera (1 Mega pixel yeah!). As you can imagine I have to get some order to the “My Pictures” folder but until I have time to do so, I really need to have a backup of everything outside my house, you know, just in case…
