How to always carry an Apple Lightning plug with you

How to always carry an Apple Lightning plug with you

Since Apple introduced the lightning connector on their devices, it has been a very nice experience. You dont have to figure out on which side the connector should be plugged because it would work either way (contrary to the micro usb plug).

Unfortunately, not everything that shines is gold, and I found myself in several situations where I would love to have a lightning adapter with me.

You probably feel identified with this situation: You are on a place where several people around you only have micro usb chargers so you can’t charge your iPhone :(. Lets face it, its really uncomfortable to carry a 1m cable on your pocket, and even so, remembering to always take it with you is another hassle.

In Europe, the micro USB connector has been set as a standard for mobile devices, so Apple is obliged to at least sell an adapter that would allow you to use any micro USB cable with their lightning devices. I wanted to test this, and today I received the Apple adaptor I purchased online. (more…)

Review: Henge Docks Retina MacBookPro dock

Review: Henge Docks Retina MacBookPro dock

Today I received the long awaited Retina MacBook Pro 15″ dock from Henge Docks, I must say I am surprised with the quality of the materials they used on the construction.

It looks sturdy and the finish of the aluminum makes it looks as an extension of the laptop itself. Although I created my own USD 2 DIY dock some time ago and I’ve been using this since I purchased my first late October 2013 rMBP, I was waiting for this particular dock because I don’t have to plug or unplug any cables at all to use it.

As you can see, the dock incorporates all the connectors for this MacBook Pro model, and all the cables to connect your stuff go down as you can see on the second picture. (more…)

Microsoft LifeCam Studio webcam on Mac OS X

Microsoft LifeCam Studio webcam on Mac OS X

I was struggling with my Microsoft Lifecam Studio webcam because it was not working properly.

I have a Retina MacBook Pro 15″  (late 2013) and I test the camera with the PhotoBooth app on Mavericks. All I was able to see was a super burned white-colored image.

After researching online for solutions I came across this program on the App store that costs USD 8. I must say, it was worth it, because from the moment I installed it, the problem was solved. Now I am able to use my camera without any troubles. (more…)

TeamViewer a tool with hidden costs

TeamViewer a tool with hidden costs

Several years ago, I believe 2009, I purchased a license of TeamViewer 4, we were looking for a tool that would allow us to provide remote support to our customers without the hassle of opening firewall ports. So after testing several tools at that moment, we decided to go for TeamViewer.

The application has always been expensive for our taste as a small company, but all in all, you paid one time fee every year and a half or two and you would get a very good tool with all the updates. We kept on upgrading until version 8 which was working fine for us with exception for one thing.

In version 7 & 8 they introduced the possibility to support remotely Samsung devices. It was fantastic, because we would be able to see exactly what our customer was seeing on their phones on our own screen. This allowed us to connect and help them with their mobile requirements too. So we encouraged all our customers to get Samsung Android devices because they would benefit from us to provide them support. Hey! I even made my father purchase a Samsung Galaxy S3 so I could help him with his device remotely. (more…)

Review: China dock for iPhone 5 & 5S compatible with a case

Review: China dock for iPhone 5 & 5S compatible with a case

Some days ago, I wrote about how Apple is making their own docks for iPhone 5 and 5S incompatible with their own phones if the device is inside one of their own cases.

On that post I commented that I found a dock in China which seems to offer what I was searching for. Today I received it and I must say, ITS GREAT!

It comes beautifully packaged in a box with protective material. The quality is amazingly great, and it comes in Black or White.

Apple iPhone 5 cases incompatible with docks, again

Apple iPhone 5 cases incompatible with docks, again

iPhone5Dock

Apple is one of the most important technological companies in the world, they invest billions in research and development to bring us super cool, powerful and functional products. I have several of them actually and I really like them, yet, they fail to deliver a simple thing: A dock compatible with their own cases!

This is not the first time they make this mistake, (yes I am assuming its a mistake), in the past I remember having an iPhone 4S and having exactly the same problem, with their own bumper it was almost impossible to find a dock compatible with their device. I ended finding a dock in China that was available with a longer 30 pin connector that would allow me to use my case with it. (more…)
